Rendall & Rittner’s Recent Energy Saving Initiative Produces Results
A number of Rendall & Rittner sites contain communal boiler rooms. Improving the efficiency of these boiler rooms has made a significant contribution not only to cost saving but also to Rendall & Rittner's commitment to minimising their impact on the environment. Rendall & Rittner partnered with Sustain, a carbon reduction company, who run a programme called SmartHeat to improve the efficiency of these heating systems.
Through Sustain's ability to secure funding for energy efficiency measures in UK domestic properties, we were able to obtain 100% funding for the insulation of valves, flanges, pipe work and other hot elements forming the heating plant. Rendall & Rittner identified properties which had communal heating and Sustain commenced a rolling programme to survey each of the properties. The survey identified the sources of any wasted heat and an Energy Savings Report was produced. The report identified how much energy could be saved for each site by fitting SmartHeat insulation and provided a calculation of the resultant annual financial savings for the respective properties.
Through the SmartHeat project, Sustain coordinated the manufacture, supply and fitting of custom made insulation jackets and lagging materials to the Rendall & Rittner managed properties with communal heating plant. As at December 2011, the majority of sites have been completed with some 4,000 jackets being fitted. Sustain estimate annual savings of over £200,000 in fuel costs and an annual saving of 1,500 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
