For our latest 60 seconds with, we caught up with Area Director, Hannah Green, to find out more about her and her role:
What does the role of Area Director involve?
As an Area Director for London at Rendall & Rittner, I oversee two teams who predominantly focus on the management of Berkeley developments under the St Edward and St James brands. Most of my portfolio constitutes of high-end and large schemes and I enjoy the challenges created by more complex developments. No two days look the same. One moment I might be reviewing my team’s reports, whereas another, I’ll be supporting the client directly. Whatever the task, the aim is the same: meeting our clients’ needs every day.
What do you like most about your role?
I really enjoy the people-side of the business and supporting my team. I like helping my team navigate challenges by finding effective solutions and seeing them through to delivery. Ultimately, my favourite part is seeing people develop throughout their careers, growing within their roles and then progressing within Rendall & Rittner. They do the hard work themselves, but I hope my support has helped along the way.
What has your own career trajectory looked like?
I started working in property management in December 2003. When I left college with my ILEX Legal diploma, I knew I wanted some office experience. I got a job as a Surveyor’s Assistant before moving into Major Works, and later Service Charges. From 2008, I specialised in property management and in 2016, I joined Rendall & Rittner as a Senior Property Manager, before progressing to a Property Team Manager and now an Area Director.
How has property management changed?
Property management has changed massively since the start of my career. When I first started in the industry, the focus was around ground maintenance and cleaning. Today, property management encompasses far more than it used to. For example, the introduction of the Building Safety Act and the requirements of that has brought the importance of health and safety much more under focus than in previous years.
On a more personal level, the types of property that I manage have also changed over the years. Whilst I used to look after many two-up, two-down conversion mansion blocks, today my portfolio encompasses entire communities. The scale of these developments, the inclusion of luxury amenities and the substantial number of staff on-site require a different approach to property management.
Who inspires you?
There are many people that inspire me at different times and reasons. I like to see women do well in their roles and am grateful that Rendall & Rittner does a great job of supporting gender equality within the industry. Charlotte Campbell-Skelly and Elisa Keating are excellent examples, having developed their skills in the years since joining Rendall & Rittner and now sitting on our Senior Leadership Team.
Dan Steer is another person that I’ve looked up to for a long time. Whatever the situation, he has a calm presence, helping me to maintain perspective and feel more positive and confident about the path ahead.
What are you most proud of?
Professionally, my biggest achievement has been growing my teams and seeing those individuals thrive and flourish. I’m looking forward to seeing how the team continues to grow as we welcome new developments and new phases to our portfolio.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I’m very family orientated and have a little Toy Poodle. My husband and I love going on dog walks and have joined some clubs.
