Celebrating 35 Years of Rendall & Rittner: A Conversation with Catherine and Richard

A Resident Management Company (or RMC) is a legal entity formed to oversee the management and maintenance of residential and communal areas in a multi-unit building or development. RMCs are typically established in leasehold properties, giving residents greater control over service charges, maintenance and day-to-day property management decisions.

At The Property Institute’s annual ACE Awards ceremony in London, we were recently presented with the prestigious Resident Engagement Initiative of the Year award. Having secured the same accolade during its inaugural year in 2024, we are proud to have repeated this achievement.

The government’s ambitious target of building 1.5 million new homes in this parliament has been backed up by recent changes to the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) that intend to speed up housing delivery. While these revisions aim to make the planning process more efficient, navigating the system remains highly complex. Developers must demonstrate not only that their schemes meet housing targets, but also that they will contribute positively to local communities, infrastructure and sustainability goals.

In years gone by managing agents were often seen as the final piece in the jigsaw for new residential development, arriving at the end of the project to manage the scheme once occupied and completed. However as our expertise and diverse skillset has come to be more recognised across the industry, the value of a managing agent with the requisite skills playing a role from the early stages of a project has grown. This is particularly true of large-scale, multi-phase schemes where residents will be in situ from the early phases, as the development progresses often over a decade or more.

In early January, the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) updated its Building Assessment Certification guidance and detailed the specific criteria being used when they are assessing safety case reports submitted as part of the Building Assessment Certificate (BAC) application.
